The Tortoise and the Hare

Într-o zi, un iepure își bătea joc de o broască țestoasă pentru că era foarte înceată.

One day, a hare was mocking a tortoise for being very slow.

„Ajungi vreodată undeva? ”, a întrebat el cu un râs batjocoritor.

"Do you ever get anywhere?" he asked with a mocking laugh.

„Da ”, a răspuns țestoasa, „și ajung acolo mai repede decât crezi. Voi alerga într-o cursă cu tine și îți voi dovedi. ”

"Yes," replied the tortoise, "and I get there faster than you think. I will run a race with you and prove it to you."

Iepurelui i s-a părut că aceasta este o idee foarte amuzantă.

The hare thought this was a very funny idea.

Era sigur că poate câștiga.

He was sure he could win.

„Foarte bine ”, a spus el, „hai să ne întrecem. ”

"Very well," he said, "let's race."

The fox agreed to set the course and act as the judge.

Cursa a început, iar iepurele a alergat atât de repede încât în scurt timp a fost mult înaintea țestoasei.

The race began, and the hare ran so fast that in a short time he was far ahead of the tortoise.

Ca să arate cât de puțin o prețuia pe țestoasă, s-a întins pe marginea drumului ca să tragă un pui de somn.

To show how little he thought of the tortoise, he stretched out by the side of the road to take a nap.

"I have plenty of time," he told himself.

"That slow tortoise will never catch up with me." The tortoise, meanwhile, kept walking slowly but steadily.

The hare kept sleeping.

When he finally woke up, he saw that the tortoise was near the finish line.

He ran as fast as he could, but it was too late.

The tortoise had already crossed the finish line and won the race.

"Slow and steady wins the race," said the tortoise with a smile.

Iar iepurele a învățat în acea zi să nu mai fie niciodată atât de sigur de el și să nu-și mai bată joc niciodată de alții.

And the hare learned that day never to be so sure of himself again and never to make fun of others.
