Czerwony Kapturek
Little Red Riding Hood
-
Once upon a time, there lived a sweet little girl who was loved by everyone who set eyes on her, but most of all by her grandmother, who would have given the child anything.
-
Once she gave her a cap of red velvet, which suited her so well that the girl never wanted to wear anything else; that was why she was always called "Little Red Riding Hood".
-
Pewnego dnia matka powiedziała do niej:
One day her mother said to her:
-
„Chodź, Czerwony Kapturku, oto kawałek ciasta i butelka wina; zanieś je babci, bo jest chora i słaba, a to dobrze jej zrobi. Wyrusz, zanim zrobi się gorąco, a idąc, idź ładnie i spokojnie, i nie zbaczaj ze ścieżki, bo możesz upaść i rozbić butelkę, a wtedy babcia nic nie dostanie. A kiedy wejdziesz do jej pokoju, nie zapomnij powiedzieć » Dzień dobry« i nie zaglądaj najpierw we wszystkie kąty”.
"Come, Little Red Riding Hood, here is a piece of cake and a bottle of wine; take them to grandmother, for she is sick and weak, and this will do her good. Set out before it gets hot, and as you walk, walk nicely and quietly, and do not stray from the path, or you might fall and break the bottle, and then grandmother will get nothing. And when you go into her room, do not forget to say 'Good morning' and do not go peeping into every corner first."
-
„Będę bardzo uważać” — powiedziała matka Czerwonemu Kapturkowi i dała jej na to słowo, podając rękę.
"I will be very careful," said Little Red Riding Hood to her mother, giving her hand on it.
-
Grandmother lived out in the forest, half a mile from the village, and as soon as Little Red Riding Hood entered the woods, she met the wolf.
-
Little Red Riding Hood did not know what a wicked creature the wolf was, and was not at all afraid of him.
-
„Dzień dobry, Czerwony Kapturku” — powiedział.
"Good day, Little Red Riding Hood," he said.
-
„Dziękuję uprzejmie, wilku”.
"Thank you kindly, wolf."
-
„Dokąd to tak wcześnie, Czerwony Kapturku? ”
"Where are you off to so early, Little Red Riding Hood?"
-
„Do babci”.
"To grandmother's."
-
„Co tam niesiesz w fartuszku? ”
"What is that you are carrying under your apron?"
-
„Ciasto i wino; wczoraj był dzień pieczenia, więc biedna, chora babcia dostanie coś dobrego, żeby nabrać sił”.
"Cake and wine; yesterday was baking day, so poor, sick grandmother gets something good to build up her strength."
-
„A gdzie mieszka twoja babcia, Czerwony Kapturku? ”
"And where does your grandmother live, Little Red Riding Hood?"
-
„Dobrą ćwierć mili dalej w lesie; jej dom stoi pod trzema wielkimi dębami, a tuż poniżej rosną krzewy leszczyny; na pewno go znasz” — odpowiedziała Czerwony Kapturek.
"A good quarter of a mile further in the woods; her house stands under three large oak trees, and hazel bushes grow right below; you must surely know it," answered Little Red Riding Hood.
-
Wilk pomyślał sobie:
The wolf thought to himself:
-
„Co za delikatne, młode stworzenie! Co za pyszny, tłusty kąsek — będzie smaczniejsza niż ta stara kobieta. Muszę postąpić sprytnie, żeby schwytać obie”.
"What a tender, young creature! What a delicious, fat morsel — she will taste even better than the old woman. I must act cleverly to catch them both."
-
Szedł więc przez chwilę obok Czerwonego Kapturka, a potem rzekł:
So he walked alongside Little Red Riding Hood for a while, and then said:
-
„Spójrz, Czerwony Kapturku, jakie piękne kwiaty tu rosną — dlaczego się nie rozejrzysz? Myślę też, że nie słyszysz, jak słodko śpiewają ptaszki; idziesz tak poważnie, jakbyś szła do szkoły, podczas gdy wszystko inne tutaj, w lesie, jest takie wesołe”.
"Look, Little Red Riding Hood, how beautiful the flowers are growing here — why don't you look around? I don't think you even hear how sweetly the birds are singing; you walk along so solemnly as if you were going to school, while everything else here in the woods is so merry."
-
Czerwony Kapturek podniosła oczy, a gdy zobaczyła promienie słońca tańczące tu i ówdzie między drzewami i piękne kwiaty rosnące wszędzie, pomyślała:
Little Red Riding Hood raised her eyes, and when she saw the sunbeams dancing back and forth through the trees and beautiful flowers growing everywhere, she thought:
-
„A gdybym tak przyniosła babci świeży bukiet? To też by ją ucieszyło.
"What if I brought grandmother a fresh bouquet? That would make her happy too. It is still so early that I am sure to get there in time."
-
Zboczyła więc ze ścieżki w las, by nazbierać kwiatów.
So she strayed off the path into the forest to gather flowers.
-
And whenever she picked one, she thought she saw an even prettier one a little further on, and ran after it, going deeper and deeper into the forest.
-
Tymczasem wilk pobiegł prosto do domu babci i zapukał do drzwi.
Meanwhile, the wolf ran straight to grandmother's house and knocked on the door.
-
„Kto tam? ”
"Who is there?"
-
„Czerwony Kapturek” — odpowiedział wilk.
"Little Red Riding Hood," answered the wolf.
-
„Przynoszę ciasto i wino; otwórz drzwi”.
"I'm bringing you cake and wine; open the door."
-
„Naciśnij klamkę” — zawołała babcia.
"Press the latch," called the grandmother.
-
„Jestem zbyt słaba i nie mogę wstać”.
"I'm too weak and cannot get up."
-
Wilk nacisnął klamkę, drzwi się otworzyły, a on, nie mówiąc ani słowa, podszedł prosto do łóżka babci i ją pożarł.
The wolf pressed the latch, the door opened, and he, without saying a word, went straight to the grandmother's bed and devoured her.
-
Potem włożył jej ubrania, nałożył jej czepek, położył się do łóżka i zaciągnął zasłony.
Then he put on her clothes, put on her cap, lay down in the bed, and drew the curtains.
-
Meanwhile, Little Red Riding Hood had been running around gathering flowers, and when she had gathered so many that she could carry no more, she remembered her grandmother and set off on her way to her.
-
She was surprised to see that the cottage door was open, and when she entered the room, such a strange feeling came over her that she thought:
-
„O rany!
"Oh my! How uneasy I feel today, and yet I usually enjoy being at grandmother's so much."
-
Zawołała: „Dzień dobry! ”, lecz nie doczekała się odpowiedzi.
She called out, "Good morning!" but received no answer.
-
Podeszła więc do łóżka i odsunęła zasłony.
So she went up to the bed and drew back the curtains.
-
There lay the grandmother with her nightcap pulled far down over her face, and she looked very strange.
-
„Och, babciu! ” — powiedziała.
"Oh, Grandmother!" she said.
-
„Dlaczego masz takie wielkie uszy? ”
"Why do you have such big ears?"
-
„Żebym cię mogła lepiej słyszeć, moje dziecko” — brzmiała odpowiedź.
"So that I can hear you better, my child," came the reply.
-
„Ale babciu, dlaczego masz takie wielkie oczy? ” — zapytała.
"But Grandmother, why do you have such big eyes?" she asked.
-
„Żebym cię mogła lepiej widzieć, moja droga”.
"So that I can see you better, my dear."
-
„Ale babciu, dlaczego masz takie wielkie ręce? ”
"But Grandmother, why do you have such big hands?"
-
„Żebym cię mogła lepiej uściskać”.
"So that I can hug you better."
-
„Och, ale babciu, dlaczego masz taką strasznie wielką buzię? ”
"Oh, but Grandmother, why do you have such a terribly big mouth?"
-
„Żebym cię mogła zjeść! ” I ledwie wilk to wypowiedział, jednym susem wyskoczył z łóżka i połknął Czerwonego Kapturka.
"So that I can eat you!" And barely had the wolf said this when he sprang out of bed in one leap and swallowed Little Red Riding Hood.
-
When the wolf had satisfied his appetite, he lay back down in the bed, fell asleep, and began to snore very loudly.
-
Akurat obok domu przechodził myśliwy i pomyślał sobie:
Just then a huntsman was passing by the house and thought to himself:
-
„Jak ta stara kobieta chrapie! Muszę sprawdzić, czy czegoś nie potrzebuje”.
"How that old woman is snoring! I must check if she needs anything."
-
Wszedł więc do pokoju, a gdy podszedł do łóżka, zobaczył, że leży w nim wilk.
So he entered the room, and when he came up to the bed, he saw that the wolf was lying in it.
-
„A, tu cię mam, ty stary grzeszniku! ” — powiedział.
"Aha, here you are, you old sinner!" he said.
-
„Długo cię szukałem! ” I właśnie gdy miał w niego wymierzyć, przyszło mu do głowy, że wilk mógł pożreć babcię i że można ją jeszcze uratować.
"I've been looking for you for a long time!" And just as he was about to aim at him, it occurred to him that the wolf might have eaten the grandmother and that she might still be saved.
-
Nie strzelił więc, lecz wziął nożyce i zaczął rozcinać brzuch śpiącego wilka.
So he did not shoot, but instead took some scissors and began to cut open the sleeping wolf's belly.
-
Gdy zrobił dwa cięcia, zobaczył błyskający czerwony kapturek, a po kolejnych dwóch cięciach dziewczynka wyskoczyła, wołając:
When he made two cuts, he saw the little red cap gleaming, and after two more cuts, the girl jumped out, crying:
-
„Ach, jak się bałam! Jak ciemno było w brzuchu wilka! ”.
"Oh, how frightened I was! How dark it was inside the wolf's belly!"
-
A zaraz potem wyszła stamtąd żywa, choć ledwo mogąca złapać oddech, stara babcia.
And right after that, the old grandmother came out alive, though barely able to catch her breath.
-
Czerwony Kapturek szybko jednak przyniosła wielkie kamienie, którymi napełnili brzuch wilka, a gdy ten się obudził, chciał uciekać, lecz kamienie były tak ciężkie, że natychmiast padł i skonał.
Little Red Riding Hood, however, quickly brought large stones, with which they filled the wolf's belly, and when he woke up, he tried to flee, but the stones were so heavy that he immediately fell down and perished.
-
Wtedy cała trójka poczuła ogromną radość.
Then all three felt great joy.
-
Myśliwy zdjął z wilka skórę i poszedł z nią do domu; babcia zjadła ciasto i wypiła wino, które przyniosła Czerwony Kapturek, i odzyskała siły, a Czerwony Kapturek pomyślała sobie:
The huntsman skinned the wolf and took the pelt home; the grandmother ate the cake and drank the wine that Little Red Riding Hood had brought, and regained her strength, while Little Red Riding Hood thought to herself:
-
„Póki żyję, nigdy więcej nie zejdę sama ze ścieżki w las, gdy matka mi tego zabroni”.
"As long as I live, I will never again stray from the path into the forest by myself when my mother forbids it."
-
Opowiadają także, że pewnego razu, gdy Czerwony Kapturek znów niosła placki starej babci, zacepił ją inny wilk i próbował skusić do zejścia ze ścieżki.
They also tell that once, when Little Red Riding Hood was carrying cakes to her old grandmother again, another wolf spoke to her and tried to entice her to leave the path.
-
Little Red Riding Hood, however, was on her guard, walked straight ahead, and told her grandmother that she had met the wolf, who had said "good day" to her, but with such a sinister glint in his eye that if they had not been on the public road, he would surely have devoured her.
-
„Cóż — rzekła babcia — zamkniemy drzwi, żeby nie mógł wejść”.
"Well," said the grandmother, "we will shut the door so that he cannot get in."
-
Wkrótce potem wilk zapukał i zawołał:
Soon after, the wolf knocked and called out:
-
„Otwórz drzwi, babciu, jestem Czerwonym Kapturkiem i przynoszę ci placki”.
"Open the door, Grandmother, I am Little Red Riding Hood and I'm bringing you some cakes."
-
But they neither answered nor opened the door, so the grey-beard crept around the house two or three times, until finally he jumped onto the roof, intending to wait until Little Red Riding Hood went home in the evening, so that he could then follow her and devour her in the darkness.
-
The grandmother, however, guessed what the wolf had in mind.
-
Przed domem stało wielkie kamienne koryto, rzekła więc do dziecka:
In front of the house stood a large stone trough, so she said to the child:
-
„Weź wiadro, Kapturku; wczoraj robiłam kiełbasy, zanieś więc do koryta wodę, w której je gotowałam”.
"Take the bucket, Little Red Riding Hood; yesterday I made sausages, so carry to the trough the water in which I boiled them."
-
Czerwony Kapturek nosiła wodę, aż wielkie koryto było całkiem pełne.
Little Red Riding Hood carried water until the large trough was completely full.
-
Then the smell of sausages reached the wolf; he began to sniff and look downward, until finally he stretched his neck out so far that he could no longer keep his balance, began to slip, and rolled off the roof straight into the large trough, where he drowned.
-
Czerwony Kapturek natomiast wróciła wesoło do domu i już nigdy nikt nie zrobił jej nic złego.
Little Red Riding Hood, meanwhile, returned home cheerfully, and from then on no one ever did her any harm.
