1. Jaś i magiczna fasola

    Jack and the Beanstalk

  2. Dawno, dawno temu żył chłopiec o imieniu Jaś.

Once upon a time, there lived a boy named Jack.

  3. Mieszkał wraz z mamą w małym domku na skraju wioski.

He lived with his mother in a small cottage on the edge of the village.

  4. Byli bardzo biedni.

    They were very poor.

One day, they had nothing left but their cow—an old, milky brindled cow.

  6. — Jasiu — powiedziała smutno mama. — Musimy sprzedać krowę.

"Jack," his mother said sadly. "We must sell the cow."

  7. Zaprowadź ją na targ.

    Take her to the market.

  8. W drodze na targ Jaś spotkał dziwnego staruszka.

On his way to the market, Jack met a strange old man.

  9. — Kupię twoją krowę — powiedział mężczyzna. — W zamian dam ci te fasolki.

"I will buy your cow," the man said. "In exchange, I will give you these beans."

  10. Są magiczne i warte więcej niż całe złoto świata.

They are magical and worth more than all the gold in the world.

Jack thought it was a tempting offer and traded the cow for the beans.

  12. Kiedy wrócił do domu i opowiedział mamie o wszystkim, wpadła w straszliwy gniew.

When he returned home and told his mother everything, she flew into a terrible rage.

  13. — Ty głuptasie!

    "You silly boy!"

  14. Oddałeś krowę za pięć śmiesznych fasolek!

You gave away the cow for five ridiculous beans!

  15. Rozgniewana wyrzuciła fasolki przez okno i odesłała Jasia do łóżka bez kolacji.

Angry, she threw the beans out the window and sent Jack to bed without supper.

The next morning, Jack woke up and saw that a giant beanstalk had grown right outside his window.

It was so big and so tall that its top disappeared into the clouds.

Jack climbed higher and higher until he broke through the clouds and found himself in a strange land.

  19. Przed nim ciągnęła się ogromna droga prowadząca do potężnego zamku.

Before him stretched a huge road leading to a mighty castle.

  20. Drzwi otworzyła życzliwa olbrzymka.

A kind giantess opened the door.

  21. — Proszę, daj mi coś do jedzenia — błagał Jaś.

"Please, give me something to eat," Jack begged.

  22. Kobieta ulitowała się nad nim, ale ostrzegła go:

The woman took pity on him, but warned him:

  23. — Mój mąż zjada ludzi!

    "My husband eats humans!"

  24. Musisz się schować, zanim wróci.

You must hide before he returns.

Hardly had she said this when the ground shook with heavy footsteps.

  26. Olbrzym wrócił.

    The giant returned.

  27. — Fi, foj, fum! — zaryczał. — Czuję zapach ludzkiej krwi!

"Fee, fi, fo, fum!" he roared. "I smell the blood of a human!"

  28. Kobieta ukryła Jasia w wielkim garnku.

The woman hid Jack in a large pot.

  29. Olbrzym zjadł swój ogromny posiłek, a potem postawił na stole worek pełen złotych monet.

The giant ate his huge meal and then placed a bag full of gold coins on the table.

  30. Zaczął je liczyć i wkrótce zasnął.

He began to count them and soon fell asleep.

  31. Jaś ostrożnie wyszedł z kryjówki, chwycił worek ze złotem i pobiegł do magicznej fasoli.

Jack carefully stepped out of his hiding place, grabbed the bag of gold, and ran toward the magic beanstalk.

  32. Szybko zszedł na ziemię i przyniósł złoto swojej mamie.

He quickly climbed down to the ground and brought the gold to his mother.

  33. Oboje bardzo się ucieszyli.

    They were both very happy.

  34. Jednak Jasiowi wciąż było mało.

However, it still wasn't enough for Jack.

  35. Po raz drugi wspiął się po łodydze.

He climbed up the beanstalk for a second time.

This time, he stole a wonderful hen that laid golden eggs.

  37. I znowu ledwie uszedł przed olbrzymem.

And once again, he barely escaped from the giant.

The third time, he took a golden harp that played the most beautiful melodies all by itself.

  39. Lecz harfa zawołała:

    But the harp called out:

  40. — Panie!

    "Master!"

  41. Panie!

    "Master!"

  42. Ratuj mnie!

    "Save me!"

The giant woke up and set off in pursuit of Jack.

Jack climbed down as fast as he could.

  45. — Mamo!

    "Mother!"

  46. Przynieś mi szybko siekierę! — zawołał.

"Bring me an axe quickly!" he called out.

  47. Z całych sił zaczął rąbać łodygę fasoli.

With all his might, he began to chop the beanstalk.

The giant beanstalk swayed, creaked, and crashed to the ground, and the giant fell along with it.

  49. Uderzył o ziemię i zginął.

He hit the ground and perished.

From then on, Jack and his mother lived in prosperity.

  51. Kura codziennie znosiła złote jajka, a harfa grała dla nich radosne melodie.

Every day the hen laid golden eggs, and the harp played joyful melodies for them.

Not even the slightest trace remained of all their past worries.
