A KIS MALACZ ÉS A FARKASOK.
THE LITTLE PIG AND THE WOLVES.
-
Once upon a time there was a little pig, who had a little house in the middle of a vast, dense forest.
-
Once, as he was cooking for himself in this little house, a big gray wolf came by and called in through the door:
-
“Let me in, my dear little pig, it is very cold out here, I am freezing.”
-
– Nem eresztelek biz én, mert megeszel.
“I certainly will not let you in, for you will eat me.”
-
– Ereszd be hát legalább az egyik hátulsó lábam.
“Then let in at least one of my hind legs.”
-
A kis malacz beeresztette az egyik hátulsó lábát, hanem alattomban oda tett egy nagy fazék vizet a tűzhöz.
The little pig let in one of the hind legs, but on the sly, he put a large pot of water on the fire.
-
Kicsi idő mulva megint megszólalt a farkas:
After a short while, the wolf spoke up again:
-
– Ugyan kedves kis malaczkám, ereszd be a másik hátulsó lábam is.
“Oh, my dear little pig, let in my other hind leg as well.”
-
The little pig let that one in too, but the wolf was not satisfied with that either, and after a little while he called in again:
-
– Kedves kis malaczkám, ereszd be a két első lábam is.
“My dear little pig, let in my two front legs as well.”
-
A kis malacz beeresztette a két első lábát is, de a farkasnak a se volt elég, megint megszólalt:
The little pig let in the two front legs too, but even that was not enough for the wolf, and he spoke up again:
-
“My dearest little pig, let me in all the way now, and you shall see, I won't lay a finger on you.”
-
Erre a kis malacz egy zsákot szépen oda tett a nyiláshoz, hogy a mint a farkas jön háttal befelé, egyenesen abba menjen be, avval beeresztette.
At this, the little pig neatly placed a sack by the opening so that as the wolf came in backwards, he would go straight into it, and with that, he let him in.
-
A farkas csakugyan a zsákba farolt be; a kis malacz se volt rest, hirtelen bekötötte a zsák száját, lekapta a tűzről a nagy fazék forró-vizet, leforrázta vele a farkast, azután hirtelen felmászott egy nagy fára.
The wolf indeed backed right into the sack; the little pig was not idle either, he quickly tied the mouth of the sack, snatched the large pot of boiling water off the fire, scalded the wolf with it, and then quickly climbed up a tall tree.
-
A farkas egy darabig ordított, mert a forró-viz úgy levitte a szőrét, hogy egy szál se maradt rajta; azután addig hányta-vetette magát, mig utoljára kiódzott a zsák szája.
The wolf howled for a while, because the boiling water had stripped off his fur so completely that not a single strand remained; then he tossed and turned until at last the mouth of the sack came undone.
-
Kibútt belőle, szaladt egyenesen segítséget hozni.
He crept out of it and ran straight to fetch help.
-
He returned before long with about ten others, and they began to search for the little pig.
-
Addig-addig keresték, mig valamelyik csakugyan meglátta a fa tetején; oda mentek a fa alá, elkezdtek tanakodni, hogy mitévők legyenek; mi módon fogják meg a kis malaczot?
They searched and searched until one of them finally spotted him at the top of the tree; they went under the tree and began to deliberate on what they should do, and how they might catch the little pig,
-
mert egyik se tudott a fára fölmászni.
since none of them knew how to climb the tree.
-
After a long while, they decided that they would all stand on each other's backs, like the judges of Lédec, so that the topmost one would surely reach him.
-
And so they began to climb onto each other's backs; the bald, hairless one stayed at the very bottom, because he was afraid to go higher, so all the others were upon his back.
-
They were already so high up that only a single one was missing to reach the little pig; that last one had already begun to climb up when the little pig suddenly cried out, “Boiling water for the bald one!”
-
a kopasz megijedt, kiugrott a többi alól, a sok farkas mind lepotyogott, kinek lába, kinek nyaka tört ki, a kopasz meg úgy elszaladt, hogy soh’se’ látták többet.
The bald one got frightened and leapt out from under the others; all the many wolves came tumbling down, some breaking their legs, some their necks, and the bald one ran away so fast that he was never seen again.
-
A kis malacz szépen leszállott a fáról, haza ment, többet felé se’ mertek menni a háza tájékának se a farkasok.
The little pig climbed down nicely from the tree and went home, and the wolves never dared to go anywhere near his house again.
