Petteri Kaniinin tarina
The Tale of Peter Rabbit
-
Olipa kerran neljä pientä kaniinia, ja heidän nimensä olivat Nykerönen, Mykerönen, Töpöhäntä ja Petteri.
Once upon a time there were four little Rabbits, and their names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter.
-
He asuivat äitinsä kanssa hiekkatörmässä, erittäin suuren kuusen juuren alla.
They lived with their Mother in a sand-bank, underneath the root of a very big fir-tree.
-
Eräänä aamuna heidän äitinsä sanoi:
One morning their mother said:
-
"Now then, my dears, you may go into the fields or down the lane, but don't go into Mr. McGregor's garden. Your Father had an accident there; Mrs. McGregor put him in a pie."
-
Then she took her basket and went through the wood to the baker's.
-
Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail, who were good little bunnies, went down the lane to gather blackberries.
-
But Peter, who was very naughty, ran straight to Mr. McGregor's garden and squeezed under the gate.
-
First he ate some lettuces and some French beans, and then he ate some radishes.
-
Hän alkoi tuntea itsensä melko sairaaksi, joten hän lähti etsimään persiljaa.
He began to feel rather sick, so he went to look for some parsley.
-
But round the end of a cucumber frame, whom should he meet but Mr. McGregor!
-
Herra McGregor hypähti pystyyn ja juoksi Petterin perään heiluttaen haraa ja huutaen:
Mr. McGregor jumped up and ran after Peter, waving a rake and calling out:
-
"Pysädy, varas!"
"Stop, thief!"
-
Petteri oli erittäin pelästynyt.
Peter was most dreadfully frightened.
-
He rushed all over the garden, for he had forgotten the way back to the gate.
-
He lost one of his shoes among the cabbages, and the other shoe amongst the potatoes.
-
Peter ran and ran, and finally he got caught in a gooseberry net by the large buttons on his jacket.
-
He thought his game was up and shed big tears.
-
But some friendly sparrows heard him, and they implored him to try once more.
-
Petteri luikahti ulos takistaan juuri ajoissa ja juoksi karkuun.
Peter wriggled out of his jacket just in time and ran away.
-
He found a door in the wall, but it was locked.
-
At last he came to the gate, slipped underneath it, and ran all the way home.
-
He was so tired that he flopped down upon the floor of the rabbit-hole and shut his eyes.
-
Hänen äitinsä oli kiireinen laittaessaan ruokaa.
His mother was busy cooking.
-
Hän ihmetteli, mitä Petteri oli tehnyt vaatteilleen.
She wondered what Peter had done with his clothes.
-
It was the second little jacket and pair of shoes that Peter had lost in a fortnight!
-
Petteri ei voinut kovin hyvin sinä iltana, joten hänen äitinsä pani hänet nukkumaan ja antoi hänelle kamomillateetä.
Peter was not very well during the evening, so his mother put him to bed, and gave him a dose of camomile tea.
-
But Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail had bread and milk and blackberries for supper.
