    JOY

Platero plays with Diana, the beautiful white dog that resembles the crescent moon, with the old grey goat, with the children...

Diana bounds, agile and elegant, in front of the donkey, her light little bell ringing, and pretends to bite his muzzle.

And Platero, pricking up his ears like two century-plant horns, charges her gently and sends her rolling over the flowering grass.

The goat walks beside Platero, brushing against his legs, pulling with her teeth at the tips of the cattails in his load.

With a carnation or a daisy in her mouth, she stands in front of him, butts him with her head, and then leaps and bleats happily, as affectionate as a woman...

  8. Entre los niños, platero es de juguete.

Among the children, Platero is a toy.

  9. ¡Con qué paciencia sufre sus locuras!

With what patience he bears their wildness!

How slowly he goes, stopping, playing the fool, so that they will not fall off!

How he scares them, suddenly breaking into a fake trot!

  13. ¡Claras tardes del otoño moguereño!

Clear afternoons of the Moguer autumn!

When the pure October air sharpens the limpid sounds, an idyllic rejoicing of bleating, braying, children's laughter, barking, and little bells rises from the valley...
