1. El Cuento de Pedrito el Conejo

    The Tale of Peter Rabbit

Once upon a time there were four little Rabbits, and their names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter.

They lived with their Mother in a sand-bank, underneath the root of a very big fir-tree.

"Now, my dears," said old Mrs. Rabbit one morning, "you may go into the fields or down the lane, but don't go into Mr. McGregor's garden."

Your Father had an accident there; he was put in a pie by Mr. McGregor.

  6. ¿Entendido?

    Understood?

  7. Flopsy, Mopsy y Colita de Algodón eran niñas buenas y obedientes.

Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail were good little bunnies.

They went down the lane to gather blackberries.

But Peter, who was very naughty, ran straight away to Mr. McGregor's garden, and squeezed under the gate!

  10. ¡Qué maravilla de huerto!

    What a wonderful garden!

  11. Había lechugas tiernas, judías verdes, rábanos y zanahorias.

There were tender lettuces, French beans, radishes, and carrots.

Peter ate so much that he began to feel sick in his tummy.

To relieve it, he went to look for some parsley; but round the end of a cucumber frame, whom should he meet but Mr. McGregor, who was on his hands and knees planting out cabbages.

  14. —¡Ladrón!

    "Thief!"

"Get out of here!" shouted the man, and he jumped up and ran after Peter, waving a rake.

Peter rushed all over the garden, running as fast as his legs could carry him.

In the confusion, he lost one of his shoes among the cabbages, and the other shoe amongst the potatoes.

He ran faster without shoes, but while trying to scurry through the gate, the large buttons on his blue jacket got caught in a gooseberry net, and he was nearly unable to get free.

Finally, he rushed into a tool-shed, and jumped into a can.

It would have been a beautiful thing to hide in, if it had not had so much cold water in it, which did no good for his stomach.

Mr. McGregor looked everywhere for him, but could not manage to find him.

When the man moved away, Peter got out of the watering can, crossed the garden with his heart racing, slipped underneath the gate, and ran without stopping until he reached home.

  23. La señora Conejo estaba preparando la cena.

    Mrs. Rabbit was preparing dinner.

Seeing Peter so pale and without his jacket or his shoes, she shook her head with concern.

She put him to bed without supper, and made some hot chamomile tea to soothe his stomach.

Meanwhile, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail had bread, milk, and fresh blackberries for supper.

  27. Habían tenido un día muy agradable.

They had had a very pleasant day.

And Peter's little blue jacket and shoes stayed forever in Mr. McGregor's garden.
