En Xanxo i la mongetera màgica
Jack and the Beanstalk
-
Once upon a time, there was a poor widow who had an only son named Jack.
-
They were so poor that one day they had to sell their cow.
-
La mare d'en Xanxo el va enviar al mercat a vendre-la.
Jack's mother sent him to the market to sell it.
-
On the way, Jack met an old man who gave him five magic beans in exchange for the cow.
-
When Jack arrived home with the beans instead of the money, his mother became very angry.
-
She threw the beans out the window and sent Jack to bed without supper.
-
In the morning, Jack looked outside and saw that the beans had grown into a huge beanstalk.
-
It reached higher and higher, all the way up to the sky.
-
Jack climbed up the beanstalk to the very top, where he found a large castle.
-
Hi vivia la dona d'un gegant.
A giant's wife lived there.
-
Jack asked her for some food, and she kindly gave him bread and milk.
-
But soon the giant arrived home, shouting:
-
«Fi-fa-fo-fum! Sento pudor de carn de cristià!».
"Fee-fi-fo-fum! I smell the blood of an Englishman!"
-
The woman hid Jack in the oven.
-
After supper, the giant counted his gold coins and fell asleep.
-
Jack crept out, took a bag of gold, and went down the beanstalk to his mother.
-
The gold did not last forever, so Jack climbed up the beanstalk again.
-
This time he stole a hen that laid golden eggs.
-
The giant woke up and roared, but Jack was already climbing down with the magic hen.
-
A third time, Jack climbed all the way up.
-
He hid in the castle and waited.
-
This time he stole a magic harp that sang all by itself.
-
Però l'arpa va cridar:
But the harp cried out:
-
«Amo!
"Master! Master!", and the giant woke up and chased Jack to the beanstalk.
-
Jack slid down as fast as he could, shouting:
-
«Mare, porta'm una destral!».
"Mother, bring me an axe!"
-
As soon as he touched the ground, he chopped at the beanstalk with all his might.
-
The great beanstalk crashed down with a huge thud, and the giant fell with it and was never seen again.
-
En Xanxo i la seva mare ara eren rics, amb la bossa d'or, la gallina que ponia ous d'or i l'arpa que cantava.
Jack and his mother were now rich, with the bag of gold, the hen that laid golden eggs, and the harp that sang.
-
I van viure feliços i van menjar gats i perdius.
And they lived happily ever after.
