    Jack and the Beanstalk

Once upon a time, there was a poor widow who had an only son named Jack.

They were so poor that one day they were forced to sell their cow.

His mother sent him to the market to sell it, and on the way, Jack met an old man who gave him five magic beans in exchange for the cow.

When Jack returned home with the beans instead of money, his mother became very angry.

She threw the beans out the window, then sent Jack to bed without dinner.

In the morning, Jack looked outside and saw that the beans had grown into a giant beanstalk.

It rose and stretched high into the sky.

Jack climbed the beanstalk until he reached the top, and there he found a great castle.

    A giant's wife lived there.

Jack asked her for some food, and she kindly gave him bread and milk.

But soon the giant returned home, shouting:

"Fee-fi-fo-fum! I smell the blood of an Englishman!"

So the wife hid Jack inside the oven.

After eating his dinner, the giant counted his gold coins and then fell fast asleep.

Jack sneaked out, grabbed a bag of gold, then climbed down the beanstalk to his mother.

The gold did not last forever, so Jack climbed the beanstalk once again.

And this time, he stole a hen that lays golden eggs.

The giant woke up and roared, but Jack had already started climbing down with the magic hen.

And for the third time, Jack climbed to the top.

He hid in the castle and waited.

This time, he stole a magic harp that sings by itself.

    But the harp cried out:

    "Master! Master!"

The giant woke up and chased Jack all the way to the beanstalk.

Jack slid down as fast as he could, shouting:

    "Mother, bring me an axe!"

And as soon as he reached the ground, he chopped down the beanstalk with all his might.

The great beanstalk collapsed and crashed, and the giant fell with it and was never seen again.

Jack and his mother were now rich, thanks to the bag of gold, the hen that lays golden eggs, and the singing harp.

And they lived happily ever after.
